Aquamation (also called alkaline hydrolysis) uses warm water and natural processes to return your pet’s body to its most basic elements—similar to what happens naturally in the earth over time, but in a more controlled and accelerated way. It is a respectful, peaceful process that does not involve flames, smoke, or high heat.
For many families, one of the biggest concerns is simply understanding what aquamation feels like as a choice. In truth, it is very much like cremation in outcome—you still receive your pet’s remains (ashes) to keep or memorialize—but the process itself is gentler and more environmentally responsible.
Traditional cremation relies on high temperatures and fossil fuels. Aquamation, by comparison, uses significantly less energy and produces no harmful air emissions. It’s considered one of the most eco-friendly aftercare options available today.
